Chiefs in Mazowe district have started receiving farming inputs as the government steps up efforts to boost food security.

Speaking during the handover over of fertilisers and seeds to Chief Negomo yesterday, Zanu Pf provincial youth secretary for Transport and Social Welfare, Cde Brian Jonga applauded government’s committment towards the fight against hunger in the district.

Zunde raMambo is a local phrase which loosely translated means ‘the chief’s granary’

” We want to appreciate the efforts by government through the Grain Marketing Board which has handed 10 bags of fertilisers and seeds to Mambo Negomo to boost Zunde raMambo program

” This program will be going to all chiefs meaning no one should die of hunger next season,” said Jonga.

Zunde raMambo is a traditional social security arrangement designed to address the contingency of drought or famine.

This form of social security existed before the colonisation of Zimbabwe.
